Why Masks?
Masks are more than just a passing trend; they are an essential part of skincare routines around the world. Unlike regular moisturizers or serums that you use every day, masks deliver an intense dose of ingredients to target specific skin issues. For example, a hydrating mask can increase skin moisture by up to 40% after just one use. Whether you're battling dryness, acne, or oiliness, there is a mask tailor-made for your needs. Everyone loves that instant glow!
Your daily routine keeps your skin hydrated, but masks can act as a booster, like a mini spa day at home. They can retexture your skin, brighten a dull complexion, and provide a soothing effect. After a good mask, you’ll feel ready to face whatever the day throws at you.
Types of Masks
When you jump into the world of masks, you'll encounter various types, each designed for different purposes. Knowing the specifics can help you choose the perfect mask for your skin. Here are some of the most popular types:
Face Masking Sheet Masks
Sheet masks are a worldwide favorite for a good reason. Made from fabric or synthetic material soaked in serums, they are incredibly easy to use. Just place the mask on your face for about 20 minutes and let it work its magic. They address concerns like dryness and dullness while delivering hydration and essential nutrients directly to your skin. Be sure to read your ingredients!
Clay Masks

For those with thicker, oily, or acne-prone skin, clay masks can be a game changer. They absorb excess oil and draw out impurities, helping to reduce breakouts and exfoliate the upper layers. When combined with ingredients like raspberries, blueberries, CoQ10, and vitamins, these masks become incredibly nourishing for all skin types! In fact, studies suggest that using clay masks can reduce acne lesions by 30% in just a week. These are also excellent for combination and dry skin, depending on the ingredients used. If you struggle with problematic areas—whether it's dry, rough skin or oiliness—this type of mask is worth trying.
We just launched a clay mask that is a peel for at-home use—a self-neutralizing peel!
Cream Masks (My Favorite)
Cream masks are known for their rich textures, providing deep hydration, especially beneficial for dry or sensitive skin. Many include ingredients like hyaluronic acid or natural oils, which can boost moisture levels and leave your skin feeling soft and nourished. Compared to regular moisturizers, they can enhance hydration levels by up to 50%. But these aren't just for dry skin; dehydrated skin can benefit as well! Did you know an oily or combination skin can also become dehydrated?
Pro Tip: If you have dry spots but an oily, clogged T-zone, use a clay mask on the T-zone and a creamy hydrating mask everywhere else, all at once!
Peel-off Masks
Peel-off masks provide a satisfying experience. You apply the product as a liquid-cream, and once it dries, you peel it off, revealing smoother skin. They are excellent for removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores, making them a fun choice for something different. However, these masks aren’t as absorbent as the others; they are designed to separate from the skin. I also don't use these in my practice with gauze, as they don't absorb into the skin with gauze blocking the way.
Overnight Masks
For busy lifestyles, overnight masks are a lifesaver. You apply them before bed and wake up to refreshed skin. These masks often contain rejuvenating ingredients that help repair your skin while you sleep, making them an effortless addition to your routine. They tend to be creamy, and your skin absorbs them efficiently. I suggest our Luxe Hydra Drench Mask when you want to give your skin a break from retinol or if you're applying it over retinol. Skin needs a switch-up every now and then! Try it once a week.

How to Use Masks Effectively
To enjoy the full benefits of your masks, follow these straightforward guidelines:
Start with Clean Skin: Always wash your face before using a mask. This ensures that the mask's active ingredients can penetrate effectively.
Read Instructions Carefully: Each mask has specific application times. Following the instructions can significantly enhance results.
Use Regularly: Consider your skin type when integrating masks into your routine. For example, many people use sheet masks two to three times a week, while clay masks might be ideal once a week or every other week. Don’t know? Consult with me for free.
Combine with Other Products: Feel free to use your daily skincare products alongside masks. For instance, apply a moisturizer after a clay mask to lock in moisture, or add a serum to your mask.
Don’t Overdo It: It can be tempting to try every mask you see, but moderation is key. Using too many masks can irritate your skin and lead to redness or breakouts. Here is the proper order for Face It Skin masks:
Glow Mask digs out blackheads and gently exfoliates, **Raspberry Clay Mask** (suitable for all skin types) retexturizes and softens, or **Turmeric** **Clay Mask** (for oily skin) absorbs oil and unclogs pores, followed by the **Oxygen Peel** which nourishes and exfoliates deeper for ageless skin, and lastly, the **Hydra Drench** for comforting, repairing, and deeply hydrating.
Final Thoughts
I've outlined the biological and chemical reasons why everyone should indulge in masks from head to toe, but what about our emotional well-being? Can taking the time to enjoy a face or foot mask of grit, clay, or serum be beneficial?
In today's fast-paced world, self-care has become essential for our emotional survival. We constantly try to keep up with friends or neighbors, while our lives are exposed on social media. We face an overwhelming number of choices and decisions about our future, leaving our mind, body, and soul utterly exhausted. So, I say to you, slow it down. No more comparing, and stop scrolling. Do some self-care. Do what works for you and trust the expertise of a reliable source.
Masks do more than just improve skin health; they enable you to sit, lay, rest, and meditate. Masks allow your mind to slip into a place of simply breathing and being.
With countless options at your fingertips, it’s easier than ever to find a mask tailored to your specific skin needs—whether it's dryness, acne, or signs of aging. But, narrow it down and use masks you know you can trust.
Masks are a fun way to enhance your skincare routine and deliver noticeable results. So, indulge in that peaceful moment of masking—your skin will appreciate it! Whether you opt for a rich clay mask or a refreshing sheet mask, there’s a perfect solution for every skin type. Embrace the masking mania, buy the mask, and let your skin shine!
