The Evolution of Skin — And the Direction of Face It Skin

It’s been a while since my last blog. That’s intentional.

When you are building something meaningful, you pause. You reflect. You make sure the direction is aligned before you move forward.

For years, I’ve wanted to create a space centered on true skin health — healthy products, healthy services, and real answers. Not trends. Not quick fixes. Real solutions rooted in understanding how skin changes through life.

I knew I couldn’t do it alone.

A few years ago, I began searching for a space that felt right. I learned quickly that you can’t force alignment. It can’t be rushed or manipulated. It has to be intentional.

I found the space.

Now, in the coming weeks, we build it.

Not just walls and treatment rooms — but a place where you can walk in and ask:

  • Why isn’t my makeup working anymore?

  • Why does my skin suddenly feel different?

  • Why do products I’ve used for years no longer deliver?

Because here’s the truth: skin changes. And those changes are not random.

Skin Is Not Static — It Evolves in Stages

Skin officially exits its “teen resilience” around age 25. Collagen production begins to slow. Cellular turnover shifts. Hormones fluctuate. Micro-inflammation becomes more influential.

From there, life unfolds in stages. I created names for these stages for every age to understand how skin, your largest organ is here and center stage. Read and learn and let's dive into this together:

Teen with acne

Stage 1: Emergent (Birth – 18)

This is the stage of resilience.

Skin is bouncy. Repair happens quickly. Hormonal fluctuations drive everything. Acne may appear, but the skin barrier is generally strong and forgiving. We are loaded with Hyaluronic Acid!

Stress, nutrition, environment — they begin shaping internal and external patterns. This stage lays the groundwork for what’s next. There are solutions here. Education matters here.

Stage 2: Prime (Early 20s)

This is where we feel strong.

Ambitious. Energized. Skin often “levels out.” We think we’ve figured it out.

But quietly, at around 25, micro-shifts begin.

Collagen slows by about 1% per year. Oil production subtly changes. Environmental damage accumulates. You may not see it immediately — but the biology has shifted.

Stage 3: Micro-Changes (Mid to Late 20s)

You notice fine lines near the lash line. Around the mouth. Makeup doesn’t sit the same.

You start thinking, “Maybe I should be doing more.”

This is when prevention becomes strategy — not panic.

The goal is not aggressive correction. It’s intelligent support of barrier function, collagen signaling, and inflammation control.

Stage 4: Awareness (30s – Early 40s)

This is the stage where you know something has shifted.

Makeup doesn’t look the way it used to. Skin appears dull. Texture changes. Pigment shifts. Sensitivity increases.

For many women, perimenopause begins earlier than expected. Hormones fluctuate. Cortisol plays a bigger role so then we can discuss lifestyle. The nervous system is taxed.

This stage is not a decline. It is a recalibration.

But it requires different tools. And some guidance from others.

Stage 5: Threefold Menopause

This is the stage we avoid talking about — and shouldn’t.

Perimenopause. Menopause. Post-menopause.

Nothing feels the same. Skin thins. Lipids decrease. Elasticity shifts. Inflammation rises. Mood and sleep impact everything.

We all arrive here — no matter when it begins. This is me in the pic to the left. Taken over a year ago just before I decided I was tired of fighting the gray. I've always known what to do with my skin but not my hair so I listen to my guy (Rene Vargas) and we decided to blend grays with lighter hair (pic below). It was time for me to listen to another expert because doing the same thing wasn't working anymore. Just like with skin! I'm actively in Threefold Menopuase. This stage deserves center stage and I'm sure I'm on the tail end of it at 59. It deserves conversation. Guidance. Community. And solutions that support how you feel, not just how you look.

Where Face It Is Going

Face It Skin Bar + Refillery is becoming a place built around all these stages.

A place to find:

  • Skin solutions aligned with your biology & age (young or old)

  • Lashes and threading that enhance, not mask

  • Nutritional insight that supports skin from within

  • Thoughtfully made products rooted in health

  • Feel-good gifts that remind us to lift one another up

This is not about chasing youth. It’s about embracing each stage with intelligence and intention. Life is a beautiful journey. Every stage deserves to be supported — not feared.

The new space is being built for that purpose.

For answers. For alignment. For young and old to come together — no matter their age — and understand what their skin is asking for next. This is the direction. And we’re just getting started. If you know a dietician, nurse, or massage therapist please send them my way for a collaborative business to be involved with!
