In a society where healthy, youthful skin signifies vitality and beauty, finding effective anti-aging treatments can be a daunting journey. Many women, especially those over 35, often feel overwhelmed by the choices available. Have you seen my menu? Today, we'll explore an exciting treatment that I've done on countless people—microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy. This innovative procedure utilizes tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, activating the body's natural healing response. The result? Improved skin texture, reduced scarring, and diminished wrinkles. Let’s dive in and understand how this amazing treatment works and how it can benefit you.

What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a simple yet powerful cosmetic procedure that uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. The device moves in and out of the skin while the professional moves the device in a circular pattern. Some devices have speed settings like the one I use. The needle cartridges are sealed with surgical stainless steel needles and are disposable with a one-time use. The needle count the professional will use depends on the desired outcome. The action of these variants kickstarts your body's healing processes, boosting the production of essential proteins like collagen and elastin. These proteins are crucial for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. Think of it this way... we are fooling your skin into thinking it needs to produce collagen in order to repair. Significantly, microneedling can tackle various skin issues, including:
Acne Scars: Studies show that microneedling can reduce acne scars by more than 60%.
Fine Lines and Wrinkles: By enhancing collagen production, it can lead to visible improvements in wrinkle depth and skin smoothness.
Enlarged Pores: The treatment can temporarily minimize pore size, giving your skin a refined appearance. Skin care products used at home will help prolong your smaller pore size.
Help fade newer dark spots, also known as hyperpigmentation, by stimulating collagen production and encouraging skin cell turnover. This process helps to break down the excess melanin causing the dark spots, leading to a more even skin tone.

The Role of Peptides in Microneedling
An exciting aspect of microneedling is its synergy with peptides. Peptides are small chains of amino acids that help form vital proteins like collagen and elastin. When applied during or immediately after microneedling, peptide serums can elevate the treatment's effectiveness.
The micro-channels created by the microneedling process allow for deeper absorption of topical treatments. For instance, a study reported that serums enriched with peptides can enhance collagen production by up to 40% when paired with microneedling. This powerful combination not only increases hydration but also helps maintain a plump, youthful appearance. From my experience, I love using these important serums during microneedling on a client: HA (hyaluronic acid) and plant-based peptides. Sometimes I even customize a cocktail of these with vitamin C to brighten the client's skin. I may add on a chemical peel, ultrasound or light device depending on the clients outcome wanted. This is only if I know the client's skin can handle it.
The Benefits of Microneedling with Peptides
Increased Collagen and Elastin Production
Integrating microneedling with peptide treatments can substantially increase your skin's collagen and elastin levels. The collagen and elastin is known as the skin matrix. If you've read my blogs before or had a treatment with me you know I talk about the skin matrix. As we age, our natural production of these proteins declines. Regular microneedling sessions can help counteract this decline. Many women notice firmer, more youthful skin after just a few treatments. According to surveys, 85% of participants reported visible improvements in skin texture within six weeks of starting a treatment plan.

Enhanced Serum Absorption
The micro-channels created in the skin from microneedling serve a crucial role in enhancing the absorption of post-treatment serums. This means that any products you apply afterward, particularly those containing peptides and hyaluronic acid, can penetrate deeper and work more effectively. Increased absorption results in pronounced hydration and nourishment, creating a radiant, rejuvenated complexion. I personally and professionally prefer plant-based peptides because our skin loves plants! Plant-based peptides are taken from the protein part of the plant. There are peptides that use real fetus parts called embryo peptides derived from human fetuses or animal embryos, often produced by chemical synthesis or enzymatic digestion of animal proteins. I just don't agree with this, and there is no strong proven evidence it works any better than plant-based protein peptides. The peptides I use are what my R & D team developed for my practice... a blend of three advanced peptides—Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7—combined with moisture-binding amino acids and botanical extracts. Together, this cocktail improves skin roughness, helps reduce crow's feet, improves skin hydration, and is known to help increase skin firmness and elasticity.
Here's a more in depth look at plant proteins:
Studies suggest plant proteins, particularly in the form of hydrolysates or peptides, may offer benefits like improving skin hydration and elasticity, reducing melanin and erythema.
Mechanism: Plant proteins can stimulate collagen production, potentially due to their amino acid content and the presence of other beneficial compounds like antioxidants found in plants.
Sustainability and Safety: Plant proteins are often favored for ethical and sustainable reasons, as they don't involve animal byproducts and may be less likely to cause allergic reactions.
Examples: Soy protein isoflavones, walnut protein hydrolysate, and spirulina protein hydrolysates have demonstrated potential for improving skin health in studies.

Effective Microneedling Myths
Consistent microneedling treatments can significantly reduce the visibility of acne scars and fine lines. However there are some misconceptions I'd like to share with you:
Microneedling is more effective the deeper the needles go. No. There is no need to penetrate so deeply that the client bleeds. Even though it's normal to have pinpricks happen, it's not necessary. Deeper isn't necessarily better. There's no need to cause bleeding since we're already creating micro punctures in the skin to achieve the desired reaction and results.
Microneedling should be painful. Microneedling can cause some discomfort, but it's generally not considered a painful procedure. Many people describe the sensation as a mild tingling or prickling, similar to a light sunburn. The level of discomfort can vary based on individual pain tolerance, the depth of needle penetration, and the area being treated.
I can microneedle at home to get the same effects. Not true. Chances are you are using a derma roller, which is not the same as needles that move up and down at many different speeds while rotating the microneedling pen, offering superior micro punctures. Also, a professional may choose to use a different needle count (there are many) for specific needs of the client. You can't get this at home. And unless you plan on throwing your at-home roller away every time you use it, you will end up with dull micro tears after just a few strokes on the face with uneven, jagged punctures.

Minimal Downtime and Versatility
One of microneedling’s major benefits is its minimally invasive nature, often resulting in little to no downtime. Most patients can return to their normal activities within 24-72 hours. This feature makes microneedling appealing for those seeking effective cosmetic enhancements without long recovery times.
Additionally, the application of microneedling isn’t restricted to the face. It can be effectively used on various body parts, including the neck and décolletage. Whether you're aiming to rejuvenate your face or refresh another area, microneedling offers a flexible solution.
Why Plant-Based Products Shine with Microneedling
I have found when selecting products to complement microneedling, plant-based ingredients often deliver the best results. These natural formulations typically contain numerous beneficial nutrients that enhance the treatment without causing irritation. For example, products with plant-based peptides can boost hydration and nutrient delivery during microneedling sessions remarkably well.
Using active organic serums also reflects the growing trend toward clean beauty and natural skincare. Many women find that these clean products improve overall skin health, providing the support necessary for lasting results post-treatment.
Embrace Ageless at Any Age
Microneedling with peptides is a powerful approach to achieving ageless, vibrant skin no matter what your age. By stimulating natural healing processes, this treatment can effectively reduce scars, fine lines, and wrinkles while enhancing overall skin tone and texture of all ages. No matter when you start you will see improved skin texture.

For women aged 30 and over, seeking a professional for microneedling monthly is a perfect method to sneak into your skincare routine, revitalize your appearance, and boost your confidence. If you want an anti-aging solution that promotes youthful skin without long downtime, microneedling combined with peptide treatments is a great option!
With proper preparation and aftercare, you can achieve your desired outcome for improved, ageless skin. Remember, it's never too late to invest in your skin and embrace the beautiful look and feeling you deserve!
